The Team Get Under The Bonnet

GULF RACING

Gulf Racing is a privately-owned racing team based in the UK.  Owner-driver principals Mike Wainwright (GB) and Roald Goethe (D) are long-time friends and business associates with a shared passion for GT racing, who are based in Switzerland and Dubai respectively.  The team is operated and managed by the hugely experienced Team Manager David Price from a more logistically-favourable base in southern England.

An evolution of the Gulf AMR Middle East team which was formed in early 2011 and ran in last year’s Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, Gulf Racing will be entering two McLaren MP4-12C GT3s in the 2012 Blancpain Endurance Series supported by Gulf Oil International and wearing its iconic blue and orange racing colours.  Gulf Racing Middle East, LMP2 entrant in the 2012 World Endurance Championship, is a separate team based out of Dubai and there is no cross-over between the two.

The joint-principals, who both have an equal share and voice in the company, started racing together in late 2009/early 2010 under the guiding hand of French professional driver, Fabien Giroix, and decided to start their own team in order to have a tailor-made structure and business model in which they could invest and build upon for the future.

After competing first with a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, and later in the ILMC in an Aston Martin Vantage, the team has now taken on iconic tracks such as Dubai, Sebring, Spa, Le Mans and Road Atlanta with some success.  The combined experiences and knowledge, together with busy business lives, have led Mike and Roald to enter the European-based Blancpain Endurance Series with the new McLaren GT3 challenger.  Gulf Racing still owns the Aston Martin Vantage and is investigating a separate, selected-race programme for that car in 2012.
