Roald’s amiable yet determined presence has been warmly welcomed in paddocks around the world since he began his racing career in 2008. In four short years he has raced against some of the sport’s best GT drivers and on some of the world’s most prestigious race tracks, having fun and gathering valuable experience for his future racing plans.
Beginning in the historic arena, driving a 1960 Ferrari 246 Dino F1 in the Bahrain Ferrari Classic, Roald went on to compete in the 2009 VdeV Endurance Challenge Renault Clio Cup at Magny Cours in France and finished a very creditable third in class. He entered further VdeV races in a Lamborghini as part of his racing education, and made a successful debut in 24 hour races at both Dubai and Spa as well as continuing with selected historic racing events.
Towards the end of 2010 Roald stepped up to full international competition with entry in the GTE-Am class of the Silverstone and Zhuhai rounds of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup in a Lamborghini and finished sixth and seventh in class – excellent results for a newcomer at this level. Since forming the forerunner to Gulf Racing in early 2011 with Mike Wainwright, Roald has gained experience at Sebring, Le Mans, Silverstone and Zhuhai, driving an Aston Martin Vantage GT2, to add to his already impressive bank of racing knowledge.
